This is when we knew we were out west =)
Badlands, South Dakota
Let's get one thing straight- pictures could never do it justice.
Photo credits: a random nice lady- she also pointed out that one rock looks like a chicken.
The beast and the road.
Little Miss Aubrie.
Photo credits: Daniel. After he chased it over hill and valley. It also had a fawn (not pictured) . =)
This picture makes the badlands look incredible. But don't forget- pictures can't really do justice to the splendor of God creation. The sun beat down with incredible strength ( it was over 100 degrees), the air was dry and hot wind blew through the grass. Notice Micah's head coming up the hill. =)
Custer National Park in the Black hills.
Buffalo are so cool! Warning signs around the campsite warned us that buffalo are really dangerous- and like to gore guests if you go too close. That is what kept Rachelle from riding one. The herds liked to feed near the roads and campgrounds though so it was fun to see them up close. Mom thought they like to hang out around people to show off... they are quite proud animals you know.Pronghorn we saw on the wildlife loop of Custer.
One stopping place on "the wildlife loop" a bunch of tameish burros were waiting for carrots. That was a lot of fun. They made it clear though that if you didn't have carrots they weren't interested! =)
Autumn and Burzy (named by Aubrie) .
The Dad and Mom. On our way out of Custer National Park we stopped at a stockade built illegally by gold miners in the....well... a long time ago. Their were a couple original cabins but the rest were rebuilt. We were glad we stopped- it was neat to see the actual place real gold miners lived! And Mom like that it was educational. =)
Mount Rushmore. Another educational point. =) We weren't planning on going there but were pretty close so we decided to do it. It was very commercialized but super cool as well. It was especially interesting to watch a video about how it was made...
Yay for Mom!! A woman after my own heart. :) It's all about being EDUCATIONAL. Did somebody think this trip was just for fun??!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you have this opportunity and we're enjoying the updates...
